Clubs & Activities

Below is a list of descriptions for clubs and activities offered at Episcopal. Clubs that are open only to Middle School or Upper School students are listed separately. All other clubs are open to both Middle and Upper School students. Please see the clubs and activities calendar posted on the website for specific meeting times and places.

Middle School

Fine Arts Club

This club is for Middle School students who are interested in the visual arts. They will assist with both the fall and spring theatre productions. There are opportunities for promotional designs and set painting. Students work directly with the drama club and art teachers on an as-needed basis. Students are encouraged to attend drama club meetings. Sponsor: Ms. Krueger

Middle School Dance Ensembles

All dancers wanted! Students will audition for placement in September and then start rehearsing after school from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Mondays or Tuesdays, depending on the ensemble in which they are placed. Students audition in ballet, modern, and jazz, and have the option to audition in tap and pointe. Dancers will perform during different chapel services, talent shows and other venues that are being created. The advanced Middle School ensemble will also perform in the Spring Dance Concert in March. Sponsor: Ms. Ponder-Reston, Ms. Wehle

Middle School Drama Club

This club supports drama at Episcopal and provides a theatre experience for both members and audience through theatre games and improvisation and through acting and musical theatre scenes. Sponsor: Ms. Lee

Middle School Boys Bible Study

This Bible study is open to all Middle School boys, and is led by the chaplain. Boys meet once a week during their lunch period. Sponsor: Father Marsh

Middle School Chapel Band

Middle School students meet weekly to prepare music for Middle School chapel. Sponsor: Father Marsh/Mr. Tippins

Middle School Girls Bible Study

This Bible study is open to all Middle School girls, and is led by the assistant chaplain. Girls meet once a week during their lunch period. Sponsor: Mother Welles

Middle School Interhouse Council

Students volunteer to represent their houses to plan educational and social activities for the Middle School. They meet when needed during Middle School lunch. Sponsor: Mr. Davies, Ms. Andrews

Middle School Math Competitions

This club prepares Middle School students for three math competitions during the school year. It meets weekly and the competitions are on weekends. Sponsor: Ms. Shea

Middle School Movie-Making Bible Study

This group videotapes their discussions about Bible topics and share it with the Middle School during chapel. Sponsor: Mother Welles

Middle School Science Sleuths

The club’s goal is to foster the development of a student’s love for science and technology while providing the opportunity for students to explore their individual scientific interests. Sponsor: Dr. Charbonnet

Middle School Techies

Learn the ins and outs of technical theatre including the fly system, painting and construction techniques, lighting and sound, and how to run a show. Sponsor: Ms. Elsila

Middle School Visual Arts Club

This club provides Middle School students exposure to the visual arts by giving them a hands-on group experience. The membership fee is $5. Sponsor: Ms. Krueger

Upper School

Best Buddies

Best Buddies is a national organization that pairs students in grades 9-12 with adults who have disabilities. The club meets during Upper School lunch. Sponsor: Ms. Dulieu

Brain Brawl

Brain Brawl is a team involved in academic competition with other local high schools, both public and private. It is open to anyone in the Upper School. The team practices once a week during lunch. Sponsors: Ms. Ferlisi, Ms. Wehle, Ms. Kneale-Tippins 

Community Builders

This group, composed of Upper School students and faculty and staff, is tasked with helping the Episcopal High School community become more diverse in various programs. One of their big projects for the school year is revamping the summer reading program. They have the power to affect positive change in our school community. Sponsors: Father Marsh, Ms. Robbins

Community Service Council

This organization is composed of Upper School students who want to help organize a wide variety of community service projects presented to Episcopal. Sponsor: Ms. Van Cleve-Miller

Cum Laude Society

This honor society recognizes students in grades 11 and 12 who have distinguished themselves on a basis of the society motto, “Excellence, Justice, and Honor.” Membership is by invitation only (see the Parent/Student Handbook for admissions criteria.) The society only meets once a year to induct new members. Sponsors: Mr. Brozowski, Ms. Prendergast

Debate Club

This club will introduce students to the art of debate. It will focus on how to argue effectively. Sponsor: Mr. Kress

Delta Epsilon Phi

Delta Epsilon Phi is a national education honorary fraternity in the study of high school German and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of German. To be eligible for induction, students must have completed three semesters of German, at least one of which must have been in the Upper School. The inductees must have attained an average of A- in German and a B overall average during their study of German. Sponsor: Ms. Pritchard

Dominican Republic Club

This club meets monthly to plan activities that will support an orphanage in the Dominican Republic, and is open to Upper School students. Sponsor: Mr. Thrift, Ms. Van Cleve-Miller

Dreams Come True Club

This club raises money to help children with terminal diseases make their dreams come true. Sponsor: Ms. Buford

Drumline

The Episcopal Drumline is a Corp style unit consisting of snare drums, tenor drums (quads), bass drums, and cymbals. Music reading ability is helpful but not required. The Drumline performs for various events at school and in the community. Sponsor: Ms. Andrews, Mr. Tippins

Freshman Orientation Adventure Counselors

This group is open to students in grades 11 and 12 only. They must complete an application to become a counselor on this camping trip. Sponsor: Ms. Zeiner 

German Competition Team

This is a club that prepares students for the Florida Association of Students of German Competition held in Daytona Beach each year. Sponsor: Ms. Pritchard 

Great Decisions/World Affairs Club

This club is composed of Upper School students interested in developing ideas to help tackle current issues involving world affairs. They are exposed to different speakers and prepare for competitions that challenge their ideas. Sponsor: Ms. Andrews

International Club

The purpose of this club is to educate and help people become appreciative of all cultures. The club meets once a month to have lunch together and learn about different cultures. It is open to all Upper School students. There is a fee for lunch. Sponsor: Ms. Van Cleve-Miller

International Thespian Society/Upper School Drama Club

The Episcopal High School chapter, troupe 1187, is active in this international society. This club is for students who are involved in the theatre classes and/or after-school, theatre-related activities. In the meetings we discuss the theatre happenings around town as well as those theatre events in our school community. Inducted thespians and hopeful thespians gather in this campus club to work together on publicity, projects, and other details of the theatre program such as district and state competitions. This club serves to support what is already happening in the after-school theatre community on campus, but in and of itself is not related to performance.  Sponsor:  Ms. Black

Key Club

This community service club meets twice a month to participate in activities that help the Jacksonville community. There is a $10 membership fee. Sponsor: Mr. Thrift

Mathletes

This club is for Upper School students who are interested in attending math competitions. It meets weekly during lunch. Sponsor: Mr. Brozowski

Mu Alpha Theta

This math honor society promotes scholarship in, and enjoyment and understanding of, mathematics. It is open primarily to juniors and seniors by invitation only.  Sponsor: Ms. Daraskevich

National Art Honor Society

The Episcopal High School chapter plans many activities and field trips to reach out beyond the campus to share its passion for art. Membership is open to dedicated art students in the Upper School who are enrolled in Advanced Placement or honors visual art courses, and who have a minimum average of B in the visual arts course, and an overall average of B. Sponsor: Mr. Chamberlain

National French Honor Society

Membership is open to Upper School students who have completed at least three semesters of French and have earned at least an A- average in all of their French courses. They must also have an overall academic average of B. Sponsor: Ms. Scheffer

National Honor Society

The NHS recognizes students for their accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership, service, and citizenship. Membership is open to students in grades 10, 11, and 12 by invitation only. (See the Parent/Student Handbook for membership criteria.) The NHS meets once a month to plan service projects or fundraising projects to benefit a charity. There is a $25 membership fee. Sponsors: Mr. Jevic, Mrs. Edwards, Ms. Pritchard

National Junior Classical League Latin Honor Society

To be eligible for induction into the National Junior Classical League Latin Honor Society, students must be in Latin 2 or higher and have at least an A- grade point average in their Latin classes. These students must also be members of the Junior Classical League and exemplify good citizenship. Sponsor: Ms. Prendergast

P.R.I.S.M. (People Rising In Support of Multiculturalism)

PRISM meets over lunch every other week to discuss issues of multiculturalism and current/historical events. All Upper School students are eligible to participate as well as the faculty. Sponsor: Ms. Van Cleve-Miller

Science Olympiad

This is a science competition team open to Upper School students. Sponsor: Ms. Russo

Spanish Honor Society

To be eligible for induction into Episcopal’s Jorge Luis Borges chapter of the Spanish Honor Society, a student must have an A- cumulative average in Spanish with no grade below a B. Additional criteria include character, leadership, cooperation, honesty and service to others. Sponsor: Ms. Hicks

Upper School Chapel Tech

Students help run chapel from backstage by learning how to operate projection, lighting, and sound boards. We meet Wednesday mornings during activities period in the Munnerlyn and in the Munnerlyn Tech Booth during Upper School chapel. Sponsor: Ms. Elsila

Upper School Dance Ensembles

All dancers wanted! Students will audition for placement in September and then start rehearsing after school. Students will be cast in different pieces according to their strengths and then prepare for the Spring Dance Concert in March. The Upper School Dance Club will take a trip possibly to THE PULSE or the National High School Dance Festival in Miami. Dancers will also have the opportunity to perform in various chapel services, Grandparents’ Day, Touring Day and much more. Three years of Upper School dance ensemble can count as a physical education credit. Sponsor: Ms. Ponder-Reston

Upper School Boys Discipleship

This Bible study is open to all Upper School students and led by the Chaplain. Sponsor: Father Marsh

Upper School Girls Bible Study

This Bible study is open to all upper school students and led by the Chaplain. Sponsor: Father Marsh

Upper School Senate

The Upper School Senate plans school activities throughout the year, including Homecoming events, a winter dance, and Spring Fest. Membership is by election only. Sponsors: Ms. Jimenez, Mr. Nash

Upper School Vestry

The Upper School Vestry exists to help plan and run chapels. The Chaplain appoints the Vestry and they meet weekly. Sponsor: Father Marsh

Upper School Worship Band

Upper School students meet weekly to prepare music for Upper School chapel. Sponsors: Father Marsh/Mr. Tippins

All School

Certamen (Latin Competition)

This club is open to Latin students. It is an academic competition team that competes against local schools at the district forum and against various schools in the state during field days. There are three levels of competition and each team will meet once a month to practice. There will be small fee to attend the field days. Sponsor: Ms. Prendergast

Daniel Club

This group volunteers at Daniel Memorial. They complete various activities throughout the school year and during the summer they sponsor a week-long camp. Sponsors: Ms. Waler, Mr. Francois

Drumming Club

This club is an informal gathering of hand drummers at all levels of experience. Students will have the opportunity to hear and play rhythms from the Latin and Brazilian traditions. Sponsor: Mr. Tippins

Fellowship of Christian Athletes

FCA is a club in which Christian athletes and non-athletes meet to support each other in the Christian faith through prayer, activities, and special events. FCA is open to all students and it meets weekly. Sponsor: Mr. Kidd

French Club

This club meets once a month to promote interest in the French culture. Sponsor: Ms. Merrill, Ms. Scheffer

Fuel

This group’s purpose is to give fun, healthy options to students on the weekends. They sponsor activities like dodge ball or basketball tournaments. Sponsors: Mr. McCown, Ms. Robbins

Gallimaufry

The purpose of this club is the development and production of the School’s literary/arts magazine, which is published in the spring. Membership is open all students. The club meets once a month. Sponsor: Ms. Duggan, Ms. Oulton

German Club

This club, open to all students, meets once a month to promote interest in the German culture. Sponsor: Ms. Pritchard

Guitar Club

This club is open to all guitarists and students interested in finding out more about the instrument. This informal gathering allows students to exchange ideas, songs, and various playing techniques in a “Guitar Circle” format. Sponsor: Mr. Tippins

Jazz Band

The Jazz Band is a performing ensemble in the big-band and jazz tradition. It is open to all student musicians in grades 8-12. The Jazz Band meets one evening a week. Sponsor: Mr. Tippins

Jazz Ensemble

The Jazz Ensemble is open to students in grades 8-12 and performs at the annual Christmas Concert and the Spring Concert. Jazz, blues, and contemporary styles are introduced to the group. Sponsor: Mr. Tippins

Latin Club

The Latin Club meets once a month to promote interest in Latin culture. There is a $5 membership fee. Sponsor: Ms. Prendergast

National Junior Honor Society

The NJHS is an organization that promotes recognition of students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership, service, and citizenship. Membership is by invitation only. (See the Parent/Student Handbook for membership criteria.) Members are inducted in the spring of their eighth grade year. NJHS meets every other week. Sponsor: Ms. Ferlisi, Ms. Oulton

Pep Band

The Pep Band is part of the larger instrumental ensemble and performs for sporting events on campus. Sponsor: Mr. Tippins

Software Development Club

This club will continue to educate students about the exciting world of computer programming. Sponsor: Ms. Bardin

Spanish Club

The Spanish Club exists to increase awareness of Spanish culture. There is a $5 membership fee. Sponsors: Ms. Jimenez, Ms. Kalantar

Vocal Ensemble

Students interested in singing may enroll in the Concert Chorale class (grades 8-12) and/or participate in the after-school Vocal Ensemble (grades 6-12). Both groups are open to male and female singers. Sponsor: Ms. Solomon

Water for Africa

This group raises money to build a well in an African village. Sponsors: Ms. Boulos, Fr. Marsh

Yearbook

 

The purpose of this group is the production and development of the official yearbook for the school. Sponsor: Ms. Walters
