Boys Soccer Reaches Final Four State Soccer Championship Series

TAMPA – The Episcopal boy’s soccer team made a great run at the state championship final four on Thursday. The program has a history of making runs in the state playoffs, having reached seven quarterfinal games before this season, but this year they were able to advance one step further and reach the state championship series.

The eagles came out firing in the first half with a 1-0 lead going into halftime, but quickly saw their one-goal lead over Fort Myers Bishop Verot disappear in minutes with two quick scores from Vikings senior Brendan Abernathy. Episcopal came close to tying the score with a pair of Sebastian Hardington free kicks. One of the kicks with 30 seconds left banged off the corner of the crossbar and left post. “This is the best our program’s ever done,” said Nick Branholm. “We’re definitely proud. In fact Jordan Giglio was saying earlier that when people look at 2010 – we took it farther than anyone else has before.” Head Coach Andy Kidd agreed and gave insight to the future of the team, “I am so proud of our seniors this year. They really made this team a priority and now it is up to the underclassman to get us back to this position next year.”
