The Episcopal Fund

Episcopal High School 2005-2006 Annual Fund goal: $525,000

Our goal for the 2005-2006 Episcopal Fund represents the most important areas to which Episcopal High School has made commitments:

The Academic Fund

The driving force of each student's day is the academic coursework. Episcopal's classical program of study is built on analysis and interpretation, emphasizing verbal and written expression. The challenging college-preparatory study is regularly enhanced with the introduction of new courses developed to create an environment that encourages intellectual growth. New courses in applied mathematics, statistics, science research seminars and photography are examples of ways we strive to maintain a cutting-edge curriculum. Gifts to The Academic Programs Fund help us do the following:

  • Develop new courses to strengthen the educational experience for our students
  • Provide new program materials for existing courses
  • Offer a comprehensive academic program in all disciplines

The Arts Fund

Episcopal's widely-recognized and award-winning fine arts program offers students opportunities for self-expression, personal creativity and group performance. There is a full-range of classes and extra-curricular activities at every level in the visual and performing arts. At Episcopal, we emphasize art instruction as an integral part of a complete education. It enhances the educational experience, self-esteem and overall academic performance. Gifts to The Arts Fund help us do the following:

  • Bring visiting artists and exhibits to campus
  • Enhance arts facilities, equipment and resources
  • Purchase and maintain musical instruments
  • Underwrite musical, dance and theatrical productions

The Athletic Fund

Episcopal's athletic program is committed to winning, but its higher goal is to teach important lessons in dedication, determination and teamwork. We applaud our student athletes and are proud of the way these students excel not only on the field, but in the classroom and in other areas of our school community. With 54 teams in 16 different sports for boys and girls at the Middle School, Junior Varsity and Varsity levels, 71% of Upper School and 72% of Middle School students participate in at least one sport. Our strong coaching staff acts as role models and mentors for these students. Gifts to The Athletics Fund help us do the following:

  • Cover expenses for game officials
  • Maintain sports equipment, uniforms and facilities
  • Provide stipends for coaches
  • Provide travel expenses for away games

The Campus Fund

The educational experience at Episcopal is uniquely enhanced by the natural beauty of the campus and by architecture that affords students the opportunity to enjoy the environment. This year we add two spectacular new facilities: the Munnerlyn Center for Worship and Fine Arts at our 58-acre main campus and the Walton Boathouse and Riverfront Activity Center at the Raymond D. Knight property. Upkeep, renovation and maintenance of all our facilities are ongoing and are integral to a positive learning atmosphere. Gifts to The Campus Fund help us do the following:

  • Ensure a safe and secure learning environment
  • Maintain and improve classroom facilities
  • Enhance campus landscaping, walkways and streets
  • Maintain playing fields

The Community Outreach and Spiritual Development Fund

Episcopal High School is grounded in its Episcopal heritage and Christian tradition. From this foundation have grown the values that shape our school and our educational environment. Moral, ethical and spiritual growth are integral to our students' educational experience. We accomplish this through religious programs and worship, a strong honor code, community service opportunities, programs that honor and celebrate the diversity in our world and a commitment to enhancing diversity within our own faculty and student bodies. Gifts to the Community Outreach and Spiritual Development Fund might:

  • Bring nationally recognized speakers and performers
  • Support our students in a variety of community involvement and service programs
  • Enhance weekly chapel services
  • Provide tuition assistance to students with financial need
  • Further diversity programs on campus

The Faculty Fund

Great teachers make a great school. Our faculty shares a breadth and depth of strengths and personalities, all with a common interest: a dedication to teaching and a desire to ignite a passion for knowledge and lifelong learning. For our faculty, commitment to their students is paramount, as is pride in their work and in Episcopal High School. They embrace opportunities for personal and professional growth. Gifts to The Faculty Fund help us do the following:

  • Offer competitive compensation and benefits
  • Provide opportunities for professional growth
  • Provide and support workshops and the pursuit of advanced degrees
  • Attract and retain the best teachers

The Technology Fund

Many changes have taken place in campus technology over the past decade. The School network connects more than 300 computers, including computer presentation stations in every classroom. The campus houses six computer labs: two student labs, a student research lab, a foreign language lab, a writing lab, and an instructional technology center for faculty training. Computer Science is an academic department, and the Technology Office staff keeps School resources up to date, provides training for faculty & staff, and assists faculty in integrating technology into the curriculum. Gifts to The Technology Fund help us do the following:

  • Upgrade academic hardware and software
  • Bring regional and national trainers for faculty technology workshops
  • Enhance educational program development and curriculum integration

The Headmaster's Discretionary Fund

There are times during the year when great opportunities or challenges not anticipated or included in the operating budget arise. These are moments when our Headmaster must consider carefully where to find financial resources. Gifts to the Headmaster's Discretionary Fund might cover the cost of the following:

  • Matching-grant opportunities
  • Recognition and awards for special student or faculty achievements
  • Special assistance to a family in need

Where Episcopal High School needs it most

Episcopal's families appreciate academic quality, spiritual commitment, small class size, low student/faculty ratio, the honor code and the caring nature of our community. If your desire is to demonstrate your financial support of the School to be used for the area of greatest need , we promise to do just that, and we extend our thanks to you for your continuing supportive trust.
