Celebration 2005: Twilight in Tuscany
Episcopal High School's annual fundraising gala!
More than 350 members of the Episcopal High School community gathered at the Semmes Athletic Center for on Saturday, April 9, for Twilight in Tuscany. Guests were greeted by faculty & staff upon their arrival, and were serenaded by a strolling violinist. The lobby was transformed into the terrace of an Italian villa with fountain, flowers and trees. The ballroom (otherwise known as the gym) glittered with twinkle lights hung from the grape arbor over the dance floor, and flowers spilled out of the window boxes from the shuttered windows hanging on the entry wall. A twilight landscape of Tuscany provided the backdrop for the stage, and guests found themselves transported to a very special corner of Italy for the evening. Donna and Jim Cardone, with the help of designer Chris Shockling and dozens of volunteers, provided this beautiful setting for a spectacular party.

Chairs Laurie Stewart Mai and Karen Seals, along with an outstanding committee, spent nearly a year planning and preparing for Celebration 2005. The decision was made to move the event to the Semmes after thirty years in the Buck Center. The additional space provided was noticeable, and allowed for beautiful auction displays arranged by Paula Margiotta and Clare Berry. There was additional space for guests to stroll, visit and dance in this lovely setting as well.
Yes, this really is the Semmes. The room was spectacular!
Matt 'Shotgun' Basford '87, from Rooster Country 107.3 served as master of ceremonies, and set a high-energy, fun tone for the evening. Steve Murray, parent '99, returned as auctioneer and produced nearly $50,000 in bids. Thanks to live auction chairs Cathy Cosby and Sarah Leuthold, Episcopal folks will be traveling to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, the American Club, and other destinations; other lucky attendees will receive lasik surgery, an autographed Elton John framed gold album, and several other fine purchases.
