  • ABC News - An excellent source for US national news.
  • ABYZ News - A portal to 15,000+ online professional news sources from around the world.
  • American Journalism Review - Search for newspapers by name, state, country, or type (weekly, business, etc.)
  • Arabview - A collection of articles written by leading journalists and editors in the Middle East.
  • BBC News - Supposedly the best Internet site for international news and events.
  • Editor & Publisher - This journalism trade magazine has links to newspapers, magazines, radio, TV, and other media in the US and throughout the world.
  • Federal News Service - Immediate verbatim transcripts of government briefings, speeches, press conferences, Congressional hearings, National Press Club speeches, and more. Its mission is to provide information to domestic and international news bureaus in Washington, D.C.
  • Foreign-language news & newspapers - Links to current electronic journals, newspapers and magazines available in French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish, courtesy of MIT
  • News & information via streaming audio - Streaming video and audio of live news from radio and television broadcasting companies from around the world.
  • Newseum - interactive museum of news: 212 front pages of newspapers from 30 countries, available in map view so that user can select the country, see today's front page and go directly to the newspaper's web site. A news trivia game and interviews with journalists provide additional news information.
  • The New York Times On the Web - includes the daily contents of the newspaper, up-to-the-minute breaking news, weekly features and original reporting. News may be searched for the previous two weeks free of charge; summaries of the "premium archives" are free, but full-text articles cost $2.50 each.
  • The New York Times on the Web's Learning Network  - developed for grades 3-12, has sections for students, teachers, and parents as well as news summaries and quizzes, "This Day in History", and links to general research sites and academic subjects.
  • PBS Newshour extra for students - For high school students, this site provides a deeper analysis of current events. Check out teacher resources for lesson plans, teaching strategies, and their mailing list.
  • Science Daily - This site is devoted to breaking news in science, technology, and medicine, including the latest discoveries and hottest research projects.
  • Student Connections  - The latest news headlines are presented in a teen-friendly format. The "Daily News Quiz" tests students' knowledge of current names, places, and events, and letters to the editor give voice to teen opinion. The "Web Explorer" provides guided tours to subject-specific Web addresses. 
  • UN News Service - Available in several languages, this site focuses on UN business and worldwide news.
  • The Why? Files is a science current-events service that brings the latest science news to students. It includes archives conveniently sorted by field: biology, environmental science, health, physical science, and social studies.
  • World newspapers, magazines and news sites in English
  • World Press Review - Offers a first-hand look at the issues and debates that occupy the world's newspapers and magazines. Drawing on publications around the globe, and a network of correspondents in dozens of countries, it includes a section of articles for educators and for students, with maps and worksheets embedded in news stories.
