English sites - American poetry

  • Academy of American Poets - At the Academy of American Poets, visitors can find hundreds of essays and interviews about poetry, biographies of more than 500 poets, almost 2000 poems, and audio clips of 150 poems read by their authors or other poets. You can also learn all about the Academy and its programs; find local poetry resources on the National Poetry Map and calendar; and much more. The site also provides curriculum and resources materials for educators.
  • American Verse Project - This is an electronic archive of volumes of American verse prior to 1920. Most of the archive is made up of 19th century poetry, although a few 18th century texts are included. The full text of each volume is available and searchable.
  • Modern American Poetry - Edited by Cary Nelson and hosted by the Department of English at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, this site provides an online journal and multimedia companion to the Oxford Anthology of Modern American Poetry. Study over 150 modern American poets from Sherman Alexie to Louis Zukofkiy. Look for sample poems, biographies, bibliographies, commentaries, and links to resources.
