Community service opportunities - animals

  • Jacksonville Zoo
    • Jacksonville Zoo needs teen volunteers to help with special events, camps, educational programs, and animal encounters as well as to assist zookeepers. To participate, you must must be at least 15 years of age and have completed ninth grade. A TB test ($10) is also required if you'll be working with animals.
    • Summer programs run for 30 hours from June 4 through August 10th. Camps include animal handling, animal care & crafts.

  • The Stray Cat House
    • Located in Five Points; needs volunteers to help socialize the animals.

  • City Animal Control.
    • Volunteers must be 16 or over.

  • BEAKS
    • BEAKS needs volunteers to help feed birds and clean cages; they prefer groups to volunteer.
    • Wear old clothes and closed-toe shoes.

  • Jacksonville Humane Society
    • To volunteer at the shelter, call the volunteer service manager at 725.8766, or email volunteer@jaxhumane.org
    • Jacksonville Humane Society on Beach Boulevard needs volunteers to help customers in the thrift store and ring up purchases as a cashier.

  • K&C Pet Rescue
    • K&C Pet Rescue needs help caring for animals at this no-kill pet center. Spend time with animals (walking and playing), help take pets to visit past owners living in homes for the elderly, and help with cleaning, paperwork, etc.

    • Safe Animal Shelter needs help walking and caring for animals, helping with fundraising, and doing office work, etc.
