Middle School Theatre
-
Students in these classes study the different elements of drama, including movement, improvisation, storytelling, adaptation, characterization and stage production. They also examine their personal skills and relationships with others as part of the acting process. They have multiple opportunities to invent original works and analyze in-class performances. Available after-school programs for Middle School include the Drama Club; this group performs twice a year, focusing on Junior Thespian Districts in the fall and a stage play in the spring.
Upper School Theatre
-
The theatre program at Episcopal High School is lively and varied. In Upper School, students can take Theatre 1 and 2, which introduce various plays from theatre history and teach the craft of acting. Theatre 3 and 4 are for young directors; these classes allow them to use the skills they learn to direct scene work and to write original material. Theatre 5 and Honors Theatre 6 are for advanced students interested in pursuing theatre beyond the high-school level. These classes, also known as the Touring Company, represent Episcopal at various competitions, festivals, and other events. Technical-production classes focusing on set construction, stage management, lighting and sound are offered as well. In addition to classes, any student is eligible to audition for theatre productions which cover the spectrum of theatre genres. One-act and full-length musicals, comedies, dramas, farces, and historical plays are all a part of the School’s rich extracurricular performance experience. Students may also take part in the wide variety of technical-theatre positions supporting these productions.
