Episcopal senior Hunter Scantling recently kicked off athletic signings for the 2007-2008 year with his official commitment to Florida State University for baseball. A student at Episcopal since the sixth grade, Scantling has excelled in football, basketball and baseball, but has chosen to focus on baseball for his senior year.

Scantling’s statistics for the 2007 season illustrate why he will continue his career at a Division-I school that is consistently a national power. In 54 innings pitched, Scantling had a stellar ERA of 1.81, and opposing hitters averaged just .209 against him. He was responsible for 48 strikeouts while allowing just 20 walks. Scantling also contributed at the plate: he hit for an impressive .324 batting average and drove in 14 runs, tying for third on the team.

Episcopal baseball coach Mike Jones says of Scantling, “I have had the pleasure of coaching him for the past five seasons. Hunter is not only a tremendous athlete, but even a better person. He is never without a smile on his face and always has a kind word for everyone. Hunter is a great role model to our underclassmen, and a leader on and off the athletic field.”
