One of the important annual events on the Middle School calendar is the Dean’s Eucharist at St. John’s Cathedral. It is an important event because it connects us with our roots. Episcopal High School began in 1966 thanks to the vision and persistence of the dean, Vestry, and people of the Cathedral. We think that it is important to make this link with our history in Eucharistic worship because that is where the mission and ministry of our School were born.
This year the service will be on Wednesday, November 19, 2008. The service is from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The Cathedral is located at 255 E. Church Street in downtown Jacksonville. Should you be interested in driving to the Cathedral, directions are available on the Episcopal website. You are most welcome to attend this service with your student. There is on-street parking around the Cathedral. Parking is also available in the lot by the offices of the Diocese of Florida at 325 Market Street and in the grassy lot on the corner of Church and Market Streets across from the Cathedral.
Buses will run from the Buck Center to the Cathedral beginning at 7:45 a.m. Please make every effort to ensure that your student arrives early that morning to facilitate the transportation process. Students will arrive back on campus in time to attend the first period of the day for Middle Schoolers which begins at 9:50 a.m.
The dean and Vestry of the Cathedral are very much involved in the life of our school. The dean serves as vice-chair of the Board of Trustees, and there are three members from the Cathedral on the Board. The Board is elected by the Vestry of the Cathedral. Three annual events; the Upper School eucharist in August, the Middle School eucharist in November, and Founders’ Day in March are all times when we celebrate the past, present and future of our school.
It affords us the opportunity to continue to pray that all we do here is begun, continued, and ended in the strong name of Jesus Christ, and always to his glory and the welfare of his people.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.
Faithfully in Christ,
