Head of School Message

Some say a picture is worth a thousand words–but as you look at our campus through pictures, it is important for me to add some personal words. Like pieces of a puzzle, the fundamental goals of Episcopal High School fit together and create an outstanding educational community.

The challenge of the School’s mission, to “create a superior college-preparatory education in an environment marked by high expectation, Christian nurture and social diversity,” drives the faculty, staff and administration to spend time reviewing and renewing the academic, athletic, Christian-education, community-service and fine-art programs available for our students. Through their Episcopal years, students work with committed teachers and coaches who serve as educators, advisors, mentors and cheerleaders. A common scene at Episcopal is small groups of teachers or coaches working with students to reach a goal. I see these small group gatherings every day in classrooms, at lunch, before and after school, and on our practice fields and performance stages.

Whether students come to Episcopal as sixth-graders and stay through graduation, or arrive at another place, these years are an important bridge between the beginning and end of formal education. These middle years are exciting and challenging. They are the important years when children become young adults who must increase their confidence and independence, strengthen their character and values, and learn to be critical thinkers and writers. Teaching these qualities is what we do best. Episcopal graduates are well equipped to move into the final years of formal education, and they matriculate at many of the nation’s most competitive colleges and universities.

As you visit Episcopal through the pictures and words on our website, please know that behind them are true stories of growth, friendship, professionalism, nurture, and a steadfast commitment to excellence through a Christian perspective.
